Hundreds of Ways

Let the beauty we love be what we do. There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground. RUMI

What if campaign posters were gorgeous? What if we didn't have to look at shoddy art as a matter of course? What if everyone loved what we loved?

My goal is to investigate what beauty is & distinguish it from what it is not; acknowledge its power & elevate its status in human experience from pleasure to necessity; harness delight as a way to organize life and immerse myself in what I love. I invite your comments and questions, let's hear 'em!

Quotes

When scientists speak of beauty in these contexts they generally employ the word loosely, equivocally, and sometimes even in a contradictory way. One can hardly blame them; is there any subject more difficult to discuss with precision? -- ROBERT P. CREASE

Truthfully we cannot do without beauty; for without the
desire for the beautiful, our lives would seemingly be
quite uninteresting and uninspiring. Art would be dry and
rigid, design overly utilitarian and what would happen to
all of the supermodels? We should all have the moment in
the street where we take time to evaluate what is truly
beautiful to us and not what we have been told is beautiful.
Let us open up beauty and try to find the potential
within it.-- SEAN BURKHOLDER

This is the spirit that Beauty must ever induce, wonderment and a delicious trouble, longing and love and a trembling that is all delight. -- PLOTINUS

Keep in your homes all that you know to be useful and all that you believe to be beautiful. -- WILLIAM MORRIS

Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. --RALPH WALDO EMERSON

Our hearts are drunk with a beauty our eyes could never see. --GEORGE W. RUSSELL

Against Him those women sin who torment their skin with potions, stain their cheeks with rouge and extend the line of their eyes with black coloring. Doubtless they are dissatisfied with God's plastic skill. In their own persons they convict and censure the Artificer of all things. --TERTULLIAN

That which is striking and beautiful is not always good, but that which is good is always beautiful. --NINON DE L'ENCLOS

It is amazing how complete is the delusion that beauty is goodness. --LEO TOLSTOY
